Bird Cafe

Always on the lookout for new places for lunch and coffee near the office, I was pleased to be alerted to Bird Cafe in Dalston via their Twitter feed @BirdCafeDalston

Bird Cafe has been open eight months but, as it’s tucked round the back away from the busy Kingsland High Street, I hadn’t spotted it. They haven’t got a website yet but you can find it by turning left down Bradbury Street after Dalston Kingland Station and it’s at the end on the left where Bradbury Street meets Boleyn Road.

It’s a very friendly place with wifi and I like the layout with two sharing tables and two small tables if you need to work in peace.

Lovely and bright with a huge window, the furniture and fittings all seem to be reused which gives a nice homely feeling.

The food is freshly prepared: organic fresh sourdough sandwiches, salad platter, homemade soup, toasted sandwiches and, something I must try – ‘Mom’s breakfast toast!’ Cakes on offer include gluten free. Coffee is Climpson’s and I was invited to sample some delicious lime and mint drink.

There were even free Swiss chocs on the counter, can’t ask for more than that. I will definitely be adding this to my lunchtime list.
