Andalucia on a tank of petrol – the plan
We planned our Spanish trip to include part of the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain). We had seen stages of the Tour de France and last year the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy). It seemed a nice idea to have experienced all three grand tours.
A visit to southern Spain in August seemed like a good idea in January when we were planning it. As our holiday drew nearer and we mentioned our trip to friends, it became clear that many people thought we were mad to attempt any type of activity then because the temperatures were likely to be in the late 30s or early 40s °C!
Oh well, if the cyclists can ride in that heat, I’m sure we could manage to walk from pool to cafe, sea to restaurant. Any hopes we might have had of doing any walking were clearly going to need to be amended. Despite this I ordered a book ‘Holiday Walks in the Alpujarras’ by Jeremy Rabjohns and a walking map. I thought that the mountains might be a bit cooler.I only booked hotels with pools so we could get a dip in at the end of the day.
